Learn how to achieve a good star rating for residential buildings by specifying the right building products.

Rob is a technical support engineer with over 20 years’ experience working in the building industry. Rob presently advises architects, surveyors, fire safety engineers and builders on thermal performance solutions and specifications. Prior to working with Kingspan, Rob led a team of technical consultants at Promat Australia providing technical support for passive fire & acoustic systems to BCA compliance.

1pm - Changes in Construction: How will this impact me as a designer?

Assistant Director Policy and Stakeholder Engagement | Consumer, Building and Occupational Services DoJ, Benjamin Price will provide an update on ongoing regulatory reforms which impact the building and construction sector, including:

  • National Construction Code 2022.
  • Home Warranty Insurance reform.
  • The Residential Building (Miscellaneous Consumer Protection Amendments) Bill 2022 including proposed amendments to Tasmania’s Building Regulatory Framework. 

Ben will also provide an overview of important regulatory considerations for building designers in Tasmania, including:

  • Condensation in Buildings – Tasmanian Designer’s Guide; and
  • Minimum requirements for design documentation for Class 1 and Class 10 buildings.

Benjamin is an experienced public policy professional, specialising in regulatory policy for building and construction, occupational licensing and consumer protection legislation. At the Department of Justice, Benjamin works across key policy, legislative and stakeholder engagement functions relevant to CBOS jurisdiction, ensuring the achievement of Tasmanian Government objectives. 

2:10pm - Planning Zones & Codes: Are we using the right ones?

PlanBuild Tasmania is now live for public use. The Enquiry service allows anyone to enter an address in the portal to see what planning zones and codes apply to a property. A Property Report can be generated which includes maps, details of the planning zone, codes and other information that affect the selected property. 

For those properties that fall under the Tasmanian Planning Scheme, PlanBuild Tasmania provides a comprehensive Guided Enquiry service, including identifying planning, building and plumbing rules that may apply to a proposed project
