2023 Building Design Awards

Building design has certainly evolved over time to not only consider the human environment but, now it's also considerate of the natural environment and wider world we live in. The projects celebrated in the inaugural Building Design Awards are a balance between aesthetic inspiration, sustainability and practical utility.

These annual Awards shine a spotlight on the incredible masterpiece projects of DMN members that not only display exceptional capabilities of building designers, but also inspire better building design to make our lives better.

The spirit of the DMN Building Design Awards is an inclusive one, valuing all manner of buildings and spaces from residences to commercial offices, schools, hospitals and more from signature building designers to those anonymous craftspeople who are all central to the message we want these Awards to convey.

We thank you for your participation and welcome your project to the Annual Building Design Awards.

ELIGIBILITY

To enter the DMN Annual Building Design Awards you must be a member and your project(s):

  • must have an occupancy permit by the closing date for entries.
  • must have been completed within the last three years.
  • must not have been entered previously in the DMN Building Design Awards.

Location, location!
The location of a project (not the Building Designer)determines the state a project is entered into (ie if a building designer based in Queensland enters a project located in Sydney, the project will be classified as a NSW entry.)

The Design Matters National Awards program has now outgrown a single event that commenced in 1996.  The two-tiered program will open with individual State Awards. State Building Design of the Year winners will automatically qualify to compete in the National Design Awards to become Australia’s Building Designer of the Year to be celebrated on October 2023.
