Design Matters National (DMN) would like to host a member networking event at the Häfele Hobart showroom on Thursday, 16 July 2026, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. The session will bring together building designers, architects, and energy efficiency assessors for networking, a technical CPD presentation, and a special DMN announcement.
 

Learning Outcomes 

Flexible Acoustics Designing flexible acoustic sliding, folding and operable wall solutions

1. Improve our understanding of building acoustics theory and practice (ACAA Competency: Design, Conceptual Design 3.3 & 3.4)

2. Identify key solutions for achieving acoustic solutions using sliding and folding doors & walls in residential & commercial applications (ACAA Competency: Design, Conceptual Design 3.2)

By the end of this session you should understand the following questions:

1.      What are some of the negative effects of poor building acoustics
2.       What does raising the sound level by 10db equal in terms of human perception?
3.      What does the acronym Rw stand for?
4.      What does flanking mean regarding acoustic construction?
5.      What is the approx. acoustic rating of a non-acoustic-rated residential sliding door
6.      What is the approx. acoustic rating of a Hawa Acoustic residential sliding door (with 4-way seals)

Clinton Pihan has been with Häfele for over 15 years and currently leads business development for sliding and automatic door solutions. He specialises in acoustic operable wall systems—particularly the Slido Wall range—and works closely with architects and designers to deliver flexible, practical space solutions
