Fire Protection, Fire Design & Damage Prevention

19/04/2023 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM AWST

OVERVIEW:

 SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: RICHARD CHOY

Richard Choy is the CEO of NATSPEC, a not-for-profit organisation with the objective of improving construction quality.  Richard sits on the Australian Building Codes Board, Australasian BIM Advisory Board, and Standards Australia Council.  Richard was awarded the 2022 Australian Institute of Architect’s Queensland President’s Prize for service to the architectural profession.  Prior to joining NATSPEC, Richard was an Associate Director of an Asia-Pacific architecture practice.

NATSPEC has partnered with DMN to provide the NATSPEC Domestic Specification to DMN WA full members. Richard will be presenting on two key topics: How coordinated documentation protects you and your clients and Fire Protection and Fire Design.

Fire safety is a key component of building regulations globally and is a key consideration for all architects.  Class 1 buildings can have features taken from the bushfire standard even if the project is not in a bushfire zone.  This is becoming more relevant as we look to improve building resilience.  Fire-related design issues for Class 2 buildings are still of concern to regulators, and building surveyors are still finding common errors rife.

Richard will give an overview of this topic before taking questions from the audience.
