Mike Cleaver, Clever Design
Founder and Principal of Clever Design, Mike Cleaver is recognised nationally for his work in sustainable, contemporary, and innovative design. With more than three decades in the design and building industries, he combines creativity, technical depth, and practical insight to deliver purposeful, enduring outcomes.
A long-time educator in Building Studies and the Advanced Diploma of Building Design, Mike brings a “responsible design practitioner” ethos—balancing creativity with sustainability and functionality.
His work has earned more than 105 national and state awards, including:
• HIA Australian Home of the Year (2013)
• 2023 Design Matters National East Coast Awards
• 2023 HIA Tasmania Home of the Year
• BDAV Building Design of the Year (2012)
Mike also authored Sustainable Clever Design (2012), showcasing a selection of the studio’s pioneering projects.
